Lets get ready for QR codes

I had posted earlier about the capability of Iphone to scan a barcode and enable you to shop smarter.Now, the thing about barcodes is that barcodes are 1 dimensional. If you are wondering why I said 1 dimensional, then the reason is that there also exists 1 dimensional barcodes.

A popular 2 dimensional bar codes is also called as QR codes. QR stands for quick response. My understanding is that the newer versions of smartphones can scan a QR code (read 2 dimensional bar code).

The benefit to consumers is manifold:

1) QR codes can embed data in the form of pics, links, or pretty much anything.

2) QR codes can be used for tracking inventory.

3) QR codes is a powerful tool for promoting events.

4) QR codes support advertisements.

5) QR codes can amplify and enrich the window shopping experience.
