Do you know the world’s richest economies ?

I had posted earlier about the world’s top economies. One question that comes up in mind is are the words richest economies the same as the worlds top economies. To answer the question, we need to first define the criteria that would the richest economies. Several thoughts come to mind but for our discussion lets pretend that the richest economies are calculated based upon the GDP per capita.

Research indicates that the top 5 richest economies in 2000 were

Luxemborg- 50,061

US – 34,142

Norway –  29,918

Ireland – 29,866

Iceland – 29,581

Fast forward to 2008 and the top 5 richest economies were

Qatar – 85,868

Luxemborg – 82,306

Norway – 53,451

Singapore – 51,142

Brunei – 50,117.

Thanks Wikipedia

US was not in the top5 list for some reason but further research indicates that US was placed in the 6th position.

US –  46,859

In a span of 8 years from 2000 to 2008, the richer countries seem to be getting richer and the GDP per capita seems to have increased. However; the top 5 rich countries seem to have a different order, although 2 of the top 5 countries seem to have found a place in the list.
