Are you a Smart Alek?

I am sure we all have our share of smart ass comments but sometimes there is a fine line of distinction between being a

Smart Alek and being aligned with the teacher.

Here is what happened.

The teacher assigned a hour detention to Alek.

The reason: Alek argued with the teacher about the teacher being wrong.

The topic: The teacher said 1 kilometer is greater than 1 mile.

Alex said:1 mile is greater than 1 kilometer.

Alex also said: The teacher is lying to the class.

Teacher says: Alek disregarded authority and insulted the teacher.

Alek is resisting new ideas.

Alek is challenging the syllabus.

Alek has no respect for the school.

I think Alek may be right in that 1 mile is greater than the kilometer.

However; Alek is politically incorrect and not aligned with the management.

Sometimes; the battle is not as important as the war. It may be ok to lose a battle if we can win the war.

There is no point in winning the battle but losing the war.

I think we need to choose our battles.
