Have you experienced plausible deniability ?

Whenever we work in groups the chances of someone messing up is high and one way people may resolve the issue is by creating a blame. The blame may be accepted or rejected depending upon several factors like environment, balance of power, effect of influence, etc.

Normally the one who has more power and influence is blamed by the one with less power and influence. When the one with power denies any awareness or knowledge of the blame, then we can say that they are exercising plausible deniability.

For Example; an elder brother may plausible deny any blame of having eaten the younger brother’s lunchbox. there may be cases where the elder brother may wipe out any evidence of proof indicating the smaller brother had lunch at some point in time. There may be cover up or destroy the lunchbox (evidence) before or after the lunchbox disappears.

The nature of plausible deniability has an element of risk and when triggered can lead to misunderstanding. The risk is usually transferred from one person to another.
