The art of soft-pedaling
While negotiating at work or in our personal life, we face situations where we have to downplay the situation. We have a need to reduce the emphasis of the game at hand and lower the light or refocus from the obvious. This technique is called as soft-pedaling.
If someone were to ask me if I soft-pedal, I do it all the time. I love soft-pedaling and prefer the technique to hard-pedaling. The main reason is that when I soft-pedal, the risk is lower and the damage caused is lower and the landing is much more smoother when compared to the hard-pedaling where the risk is higher, the damage is higher and the landing is full of friction. The example that comes to mind is riding a cycle and you may find that it is very easy to hard-pedal but very tough to soft-pedal.
Soft-pedaling is a soft-skill that seems to be missing from our daily lives. I have always engaged myself in soft-pedaling although I can hard-pedal if the need arises.
The risk involved in soft-pedalling is that more time may be taken to achieve and accomplish the tasks but the advantage is that the fruits of our effort seems to last longer.
