Is stereotyping people healthy ?
The likelihood that we all have stereotyped at some point in time is very high. For example we choose a bunch of people , find out what is common among them and then we attach a name to the group and we start identifying these people with the characteristics or the characteristics with the people.
The chances that we stereotype successful people is much higher than the chance that we stereotype not-so-successful people.
The reason behind our reasoning maybe that we want to be successful.
The advantage of stereotyping is that we have well defined characteristics of people and their behavior. Such an example of stereotyping may be healthy. However; we face the risk that we may be spreading the ‘horn effect’ as there could be genuine people who may be a victim due to no fault of theirs.
