Do we really need Instant Gratification ?
We live in a world where we are looking for instant gratification as we are getting addicted to seeing immediate results. Instant gratification in certain scenarios like the case where we need to have short-term capital to survive the economy but if the short-term goals are not aligned with the long-term goals, then in the long-term, we will suffer as what we will have is a series of band-aid fixes that have solved the issue facing us in the short-term but leaves a huge gap in the long-term. The gap will seem to grow every day unless we take measures to fix the short-term issues at hand.
Instant gratification is good in the short-term as a band-aid can help solve the issue at hand but can hurt in the long-term if the short-term goals and the instant gratification are not aligned with the long-term goals.
One problem most organizations face is that the long-term goals are not well defined due to a lack of strategic plan or direction. In such a case, the long-term goals will have be developed and the short-term goals will have to be aligned with the long-term goals for the organization to succeed.
