Do we know the difference between the truth and the whole truth ?
One of the questions that constantly comes up in our mind is if we can validate truth. Is the truth out there ‘the whole truth’ and ‘nothing but the truth’? Is there a possibility that there is more to truth than is being revealed? Is the ‘whole truth’ being edited? Is the truth a weighted ‘truth’ and will the truth have different weights attached with itself under different circumstances and environmental conditions ?
Let’s pause the ‘questions’ button and play the ‘example’ button.
Lets pretend that the question is ” How is the report ?”
Here is a list of frequently answered answers :
1) What are you talking about ?
2) Do I know you ?
3) Your report sucks.
4) The report must be fine.
5) Your report is fine. I personally verified the content and format of this week’s report.
6) Your report is good but may need some cosmetic overhaul.
7) I like your report because I like you.
8) I have no idea about the report (because I have not read the report).
9) do you want to discuss the report over coffee, maybe dinner ?
10) I have worked 9 hours already and it is time for me to go.
These were examples of some of the answers to the question and I am sure that you guys can think of many more examples from your experience.
The YALM here is that people answer questions based on their own perceptions. People may not understand the significance of the question and may answer based on the immediate problem they may be facing and hence the truth you see or hear may be an edited version of the truth. There may or may not be a valid reason behind the answer. The answer you receive may not even remotely relate to the question.
