What is the IPHONE-3G really selling to us Consumers ?
When the original IPHONE was released last year, the device supported EDGE speeds but did not support 3G speeds. What this meant was that if we were to use the IPHONE to surf the web (Yes; the IPHONE has a full HTML browser that is far superior to the ones commonly found on a mobile device) then the rate at which the IPHONE would download the data would be at EDGE speeds and not at 3G speeds and those of us who are wondering what the difference between the two speeds are, the 3G download speeds are upto 10 times faster than the EDGE download speeds.
The IPHONE-3G supports 3G speeds ( as the name suggests) and was released a couple of days back.
I was wondering if it is time for me to jump to the IPHONE bandwagon as I had not compared the IPHONE-3G with the IPHONE. I wondered if the IPHONE-3G provided any other interesting features. I was interested in the feel-good factor of the IPHONE-3G.

I started getting curious to know what the IPHONE was really selling?
Was it the
1) feel good factor ?
2) download speeds ?
3) Integrated GPS
4) Rich UI (User Interface)
Apple has strategically reduced the price of the device to 199 dollars to spark an explosion among the consumers and I am sure that the sales of the IPHONE-3G will ignite and explode in a matters of months if not days.
After pondering for some time, I think that the main feature that APPLE is selling using the IPHONE-3G as an example is Apple’s ’Operating system’. Apple has incrementally opened the operating system to the developers and motivated the software community to write lightweight applications leveraging the operating system. As more and more developers start writing newer applications, the applications will eventually expand and learn to work seamlessly with the IPHONE-3G. The operating system will slowly gain more popularity. The IPHONE-3G will slowly lay a foundation for the next generation IPHONE devices that may include newer features like faster 4G download speeds or video recording or read aloud features. However; the common feature in all the devices will be the same: the vibrant and versatile Operating system.
