How does Day and Night look like in 2D ?

We know that Mother Earth revolves around the Sun from West to East. We feel the Sun rise in the East and set in the West. If we were to map the three dimensional (3D) idea into a 2 dimensional (2D), then we would have to extrapolate the rays of the Sun from a 3D (Sphere) to a 2D (Circle) and then spreading the circle to fit on a rectangular map (the ones we use to locate geographical locations).

Here is a snapshot of how the image would look like.
