Rent One Rent One Free
One of my hobbies is to watch movies and I go to local video stores to rent movies. Recently one of the stores had a deal that stated ” Rent One Rent One Free”. As the long weekend was nearby, I decided to rent out 6 movies. I had enough cash to pay for 3 rentals and I took the cash and went to the counter to check the rental movies out.
However; the cashier at the counter charged me for 5 movies and the logic of the cashier sounded something like this:
There are a total of 6 movies. Rent one and rent one for free. The deal does not talk about situations when a renter rents more than 1 movie. Hence, the renter has to pay for the remaining rentals. There are 4 more movies being rented out. Hence; the total rent amount is for 1 +4 = 5 movies.
I told the cashier that I am gonna pay for 3 rentals, but the cashier did not understand. I escalated the issue to the manager.
I told the manager that I am going to rent 2 rentals at a time and using the policy I will be paying for only 1 rental. I will take the rentals to my car parked outside. I will come back and rent 2 more movies. I will apply the policy and I will pay for 1 of the 2 rentals. I will repeat the process one more time and I would end up renting all the six movies but pay for only three movies.
I had a nice long weekend and I was able to watch all the 6 movies for the price of 3.
