Is my Swimming pool safe from RWI ?
When the weather trends towards summer, we have a tendency to start swimming even if we do not have a swimming pool at or near our place of residence.
However; we do not always question if swimming is safe for us probably because we have not been hurt when we went swimming the last time or perhaps because we never went swimming in the first place.
We mainly go to water for recreational purposes and the illness born from recreational water activities is called as Recreational Water Illness (RWI).
You may want to watch out for symptoms and follow the symptoms to identify the root cause. The symptoms of RWI may be infections or irritations related to ear, eye, nose, skin, breathing or in some cases diarrhea. RWI spread because of having contact with the contaminated water. Water can get contaminated by faeces, urine, or spit. Contaminated water may contain germs in the form of bacteria and lead to RWI.
You may want to question the pool authority if the pool is being maintained regularly and the pool has been approved by the health officials. Here are two don’ts that can help you.
1) don’t swim when you have diarrhea.
2) don’t swallow the pool water.
If your irritation persists, please visit the emergency care provider or consult your doctor at the earliest convenience possible as a medical help can minimize the risks associated with a RWI.
